Unified payment Interface (UPI)

Unified payment Interface (UPI) is a payments system platform developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Here a customer can fetch and place all his/her accounts maintained with different banks and transact through these accounts. UPI facilitates money transfer between any two parties using a smart phone through a payment identifier like a combination of an account number and IFS Code or a virtual address.

UPI is providing additional benefits to IMPS in the following ways:
  • Provides the "Collect Money" option
  • Single Android app for funds transfer using account of any
  • Bank participating in UPI
  • Simplifies Merchant Payments
  • Provides single click two factor authentication.

UPI is currently available only for Android smart phone users and is available on Google Play Store. It would be made available for other platforms shortly.

 

How it works:

Device Customer needs a Bank account and a smart phone
App Download the UPI-enabled app from Play Store/Bank’s website
ID Enter details, such as name and age, to create a unique virtual ID. It could be your name, phone number, Aadhar number
Profile Create your profile with Bank name, account number, IFS Code and link to your mobile number
Transact Select the Bank account. Generate M-PIN; Enter last 6 digit of debit card and expiry date; Enter OTP received on mobile and secret M-PIN. Press ‘Submit’ button
Round the clock Use UPI app for transferring money and requesting funds by sharing your virtual ID. One can do bank transactions 24x7, unlike NEFT or RTGS services that have specific hours
